Interferons and the Cold

Script Content

So, why do we get a Cold?

The name for a cold comes from the fact that your immune system—what your body uses to defend itself from pesky viruses—is unable to do the best job when it is cold.

Why is that?

Well, colder air prevents the body from releasing “interferons”, which are molecules in the airways that raise the alarm and tell the immune system when a virus has entered the body.
