Dedicated on October 28, 1886, The Statue of Liberty is a copper statue depicting a woman holding both a torch and a tabula ansata inscribed with the date of the US declaration of independence.
But who is she?
A figure of Libertas, the statue depicts the roman goddess of liberty and freedom.
She was gifted to the US by the people of France and designed by sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi.
