In the heart of the American Revolutionary War, on the eve of December 25th 1776, George Washington crossed the Delaware River initiating a surprise attack on the British forces.
A daring manoeuvre made possibly by the partial freezing of the river, providing an unstable surface to cross the river, shrouded by the dark of night.
The attack was unprecedented and won Washington a major victory – perhaps even helping to turn the tide of the war in favour of the Revolutionaries.
