Negative numbers are numbers less than zero.
How can anything be less than zero?
After all, zero is nothing, right?
Don’t worry. It can be difficult to understand, but there are times in real life when we use numbers less than zero.
For example, the temperature.
When the temperature drops below 0 °C, we use negative numbers.
That’s because 0°C is the freezing point of liquids like water, but some elements can still get colder than that!
So, we use negative numbers to represent the extra chilliness of the temperature.
