Spoofing

It’s possible to make a phone call and have it look like someone else is calling. 

This is called “spoofing”, and it is very common for scammers to use phone numbers belonging to the police. 

There are several reasons for this. 

People might give their credit card numbers or other personal information if they believe it’s the police asking for it. 

That is why verifying a caller is always important before providing sensitive information.
